Dorothy Robinson wanted to know the difference between "Mac II" and "HyperCard" sounds. I thought I'd answer her publicly in case other users are also interested.
The two types should actually be properly called format 1 and format 2 'snd ' resources. I called them "Mac II" and "HyperCard" in my documentation, because format 2 would originally be played only by HyperCard and format 1 can still only be played as a system sound (and originally ONLY on a Mac II).
Basically, they both contain exactly the same sound samples (if they contain any samples at all, that is), but their headers are slightly different (why Apple did this is still a mystery to me!!!).
Format 1 snd's specify a synthesizer to be linked to the channel, while format 2 don't.
